Dr Joana Grah (RKI) visiting ZESS and “Women in Vision”

During the past couple of days we had the great pleasure to host Dr Joana Grah for a research stay at ZESS’ Computer Vision Group and the DFG research unit Learning to Sense. Apart from her talk on Light and Electron Microscopy Image Analysis with Applications in Public Health Research in the ZESS lecture series there was plenty of time to talk informally with lots of interesting & stimulating interactions.

Joana’s stay was topped of with a discussion round hosted by our Women in Vision Siegen initiative – thanks a lot to Jovita Lukasik for the organisation!

Women in Vision Siegen was started by three women in the group to encourage more women to study computer science in general and computer vision in particular. They have created a website as a platform and are regularly inviting female researchers to give talks.

In the discussion round, Joana shared my own experiences as a woman in the field and her publicaiton Her Maths Story was brought into being around five years ago. With those initiatives, we all share the same goal of creating more awareness, visibility and possibilities to share experiences and connect. Community matters, visibility matters and we can achieve more if we team up!
