L2S Talk by Jakob Lindinger and Alphonse Vial (SICK AG): Sensor Intelligence at SICK. Projects and Research on Closing the Sim-to-Real Gap

This talk will present an overview of research at the SICK AG with a focus on smart sensorics in general, and the use of generative models for enhancing simulated data for training neural networks in particular, including results of a recent master thesis jointly supervised with ZESS member and L2S spokesperson Prof Michael Möller.

The talk will also explore several opportunities for future joint research, particularly for interested master students.

Dr. Jan Söhlke is the head of communication and staff photographer at ZESS, as well as the Scientific Coordinator for the DFG Research Unit 'Learning to Sense' (FOR 5336).

Following his doctoral studies at LMU Munich, he moved into science communication and the visual documentation of research environments. His work focuses on photographing complex scientific setups and high-tech infrastructure - translating engineering and academic projects into clear visual assets.
