Prof Dr Vincent Wallace (UWA, Perth, Australia): Terahertz spectroscopy and imaging, data processing and analysis
2 July 2025, 10.30-12 h in PB-H 0103
The talk is part of the ZESS lecture series and hosted by the DFG research unit “Learning to Sense” (L2S).
DFG Research Unit “Learning to Sense” (L2S) Mercator fellow Prof Vincent Wallace is giving an L2S talk in the ZESS lecture series on Terahertz spectroscopy and imaging, data processing and analysis.
Vincent will introduce his research in the field of terahertz waves with a focus on biomedical applications. In his presentation he connects terahertz spectroscopy and imaging in health care-related settings with the ambition to correctly classify correspondingly generated images and thereby simplify diagnostic practices using artificial neural networks.
Prof Wallace has over 20 years of experience in Biophotonics. He graduated with a PhD in Medical Physics from the University of London, in 1997. After three years at the Beckman Laser Institute, UC Irvine, he joined Toshiba Research in Cambridge, UK to look at potential medical applications of terahertz radiation. TeraView Ltd, also based in Cambridge, was spun-out of Toshiba Labs in April 2001. At TeraView, Vince led a group looking at medical applications of terahertz. In 2007 he moved to the University of Western Australia where he continues to apply terahertz and other techniques to biomedical and clinical problems.
